About the Role
The role involves applying, removing, and repairing insulation on various mechanical systems to control noise and maintain temperatures. Insulators work independently to ensure proper installation and protection of equipment while adhering to safety standards. • Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and work instructions. • Select and measure insulation materials (fiberglass, foam, Styrofoam, cork, urethane) for heat retention and protection. • Move materials and set up work sites; cut, shape, and fit insulation around obstructions. • Install sheet metal around insulated pipes to safeguard against weather and damage. • Cover, seal, and finish insulated surfaces using plastic covers, canvas strips, sealants, tape, cement, or asphalt mastic. • Prepare surfaces with adhesives, cement, or metal pins before applying insulation. • Handle hazardous waste and, when required, remove or seal old asbestos insulation safely. • Maintain tools and equipment, complete documentation, and perform cleanup and housekeeping tasks. • Observe all safety rules, wear required personal protective equipment, and follow project regulations. • Apply shop mathematics, plan work, and visualize three‑dimensional objects from drawings. • Perform physical tasks such as lifting 50 lb, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and reaching frequently.

What You Bring
Applicants need at least three years of documented field experience in the craft, the ability to read and interpret technical instructions, and NCCER certification; leadmen provide additional leadership to crews. A high‑school diploma or equivalent is required, along with knowledge of industry practices and the ability to work under supervision. Physical demands include standing, walking, lifting and carrying up to 50 lb, pushing/pulling 70 ft‑lb, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and other motions performed frequently or constantly as indicated by the job’s symbol guide.
