About the Role

Key accountabilities include allocating requirements to signaling subsystems, conducting ATC gap analyses, managing interfaces with other subsystems such as rolling stock and TLC, and defining the physical architecture of the signaling portion within the overall system. The engineer will also ensure product development meets project specifications, deliver tasks on schedule and budget, standardize designs across projects, and oversee integration and lab testing while adhering to standards like CMMI, CENELEC, AREMA, IEEE, and IPC. • Identify, manage, and trace overall signaling system requirements throughout the project lifecycle. • Allocate signaling system requirements to each subsystem. • Conduct signaling system design and ATC gap analysis to meet functional and performance targets. • Manage and resolve interfaces between signaling subsystems and other subsystems (e.g., rolling stock, TLC) and internal signaling interfaces. • Define the physical architecture of the signaling portion and integrate it into the overall system architecture. • Ensure product development complies with project requirements and interfaces. • Deliver assigned tasks on time, within budget, and to quality standards. • Standardize signaling system designs across projects and create design specifications. • Define, improve, execute, and document integration and lab test procedures and final test dossiers. • Apply relevant standards such as CMMI, CENELEC, AREMA, IEEE, and IPC.

Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic, self‑motivated senior engineer who thrives in a fast‑paced environment. The role involves leading the identification, management, and traceability of overall signaling system requirements throughout the design and testing phases of projects. The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of experience as a lead systems or design engineer on signaling projects, especially CBTC systems, and possesses a solid understanding of engineering lifecycles, hardware/software integration, and systems‑engineering principles. Required competencies include project and team leadership, strong communication, proficiency with requirements‑management and PLM tools, and the ability to troubleshoot complex electromechanical systems. Rail or rail‑transit domain experience and a detail‑oriented, organized approach are essential. • 3–5 years experience as lead systems/design engineer on signaling projects, preferably CBTC. • Strong knowledge of engineering lifecycles, hardware/software integration, and ability to deliver solutions to closure. • Experience managing small‑to‑medium projects and cross‑functional teams. • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, requirements‑management, PLM, defect tracking, and software configuration tools. • Excellent communication, leadership, and relationship‑building skills. • Ability to quickly learn new technologies and convey complex ideas simply. • Robust troubleshooting and problem‑solving abilities in electromechanical systems. • Deep understanding of systems‑engineering concepts: V‑model, architecture, requirements, configuration, and interface management. • Detail‑oriented with strong organizational capabilities. • Experience in the rail or rail‑transit domain. • PE certification in California Electrical Engineering. • Proven experience collaborating with diverse, geographically dispersed teams.
