About the Role

Work is performed outdoors and may expose team members to fumes, airborne particles, loud noise, vibration, and extreme weather conditions. Safety protocols are required to mitigate these hazards while operating in both energized and de‑energized environments. The electric division addresses national energy infrastructure challenges by designing transmission and distribution systems, deploying smart‑meter technologies, and integrating renewable energy sources onto the grid. • Assist fellow line‑workers in meeting project objectives. • Join storm restoration efforts as needed. • Operate vehicles and equipment professionally. • Follow safety rules and company policy. • Travel long distances on short notice when required. • Work extended periods in various locations as needed. • Perform new construction, maintenance, or repair of energized and de‑energized overhead lines safely. • Inspect rubber goods and personal protective equipment (PPE) and wear PPE appropriately. • String overhead wire and set poles and anchors. • Assist with installing transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, cross‑arms, insulators, switches, and switchgear. • Replace fuses in transformers and clear faulted circuits. • Work with energized high‑voltage systems, protecting lives. • Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools. • Assist with installation and hookup of single‑phase transformers. • Set up and ground equipment; work at heights and confined spaces. • Observe minimum approach distances and excavation/shoring requirements. • Check voltage on transformers and install/remove service. • Climb various structures (wood, steel) using appropriate tools. • Identify different line‑work materials.

Groundmen assist teams in building, repairing, and maintaining overhead electrical distribution systems. They play a vital role in ensuring reliable electricity delivery. The role demands regular physical activity, including standing, walking, climbing various structures, and handling tools. Employees frequently lift or move loads of 50 lb or more and must have good vision across multiple ranges. Rigorous labor and manual dexterity are essential. • Self‑motivated. • Obtain a Commercial Driver’s License permit within 60 days. • Read, write, and communicate effectively. • Lift more than 50 lb. • Use company radio properly. • Perform basic rigging, hand lines, and lineman knot tying. • Use and maintain hand tools correctly. • Follow directions and possess basic knowledge of line‑work materials. • Identify primary and secondary voltage and understand induced voltage. • Perform basic bucket rescue/escape. • Use Kellum grips appropriately. • Work outdoors, often in inclement weather.
