Technical Buyer - Machine and Fabrication
Mentor buyers, manage machining/fabrication sourcing, purchase, and supplier relationships.

About the Role
In this role you will mentor buyers and associate buyers on the technical aspects of machining and fabrication, and maintain an improved preferred-supplier list based on supply-base capabilities. You will evaluate make-vs-buy decisions, procure direct materials according to project bills of material, and communicate delivery schedules, payment terms and product discrepancies to internal teams. Additionally, you will expedite orders, enter purchase orders into Epicor, ensure proper documentation, reconcile supplier invoices and packing slips, and negotiate pricing and terms. • Mentor and guide buyers on machining and fabrication processes. • Maintain and improve the preferred suppliers list for machining and fabrication. • Perform make‑vs‑buy analysis using internal and supplier capabilities. • Procure direct material per project bills of material in line with corporate strategy. • Communicate delivery timing, payment terms and resolve product discrepancies. • Expedite material orders and enter purchase orders into Epicor/EDI systems. • Ensure accurate documentation of supplier and purchasing records. • Reconcile discrepant supplier invoices and packing slips. • Negotiate pricing, payment terms and delivery conditions with suppliers. • Collaborate with commodity/strategic purchasing and supply chain teams to drive value and share best practices. • Support working‑capital management, on‑time delivery and cost‑saving initiatives. • Travel up to 15% to supplier sites or other JR locations.

What You Bring
Collaboration with the Commodity/Strategic Purchasing team and Supply Chain Management across business units is essential to achieve best-value outcomes, common processes and continuous-improvement best practices. The position also contributes to departmental goals such as working-capital management, on-time supplier delivery and material cost savings, while fostering positive supplier relationships. Candidates should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering or Business (preferred), possess related procurement certifications, and have five or more years of purchasing experience, ideally in a manufacturing or project environment. Experience with blanket purchase orders, Epicor, EDI, and the ability to drive lean improvements are required, along with strong Microsoft Office skills and excellent communication abilities. Travel up to 15% to supplier sites or other JR locations is expected, and the role demands the values of collaboration, integrity, courage and excellence.
