About the Role
• Ensure design development stays within the bid scope on design‑build projects to avoid scope creep. • Produce and review design packages (schematics, wiring/cabling plans, cabinet/rack layouts, interfaces) according to the project schedule. • Execute all engineering tasks for telecom subsystem Radio Systems, including high‑ and low‑level design, equipment location, cable routing, and rack planning. • Support development and maintenance of system architecture and Interface Control Documents (ICDs). • Produce pre‑ and post‑communications CDRL deliverables such as product data, design and test procedures, test reports, O&M manuals, and training material submissions.

What You Bring
• Update required close‑out documentation to achieve final acceptance. • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunications, Automation or a related engineering field. • Minimum five years of railway experience; North American transit experience is a plus. • Basic knowledge of railway signaling and communication protocols. • Familiarity with CCTV, intrusion detection, PA, SCADA, networking/radio, passenger information, and access control systems. • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; AutoCAD experience preferred. • Ability to meet deadlines and strong written/oral communication skills. • Highly self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, and a transparent communicator. • Proven analytical, creative problem‑solving, organizational, and interpersonal abilities. • Willing to travel for installation and commissioning (approximately 25% of project duration). • Work primarily in an office environment with frequent sitting and computer use. • May occasionally need to stand, walk, lift, stoop, or bend.

Compensation ranges from $85,000 to $110,000 per year. The Data Communications Engineer has full responsibility to translate contractual and system requirements through all phases—from design through construction, testing, and commissioning. The engineer works as part of a team to develop overall communications designs and integrate them with existing customer systems, ensuring no scope gaps and delivering functional, acceptable solutions.
