About the Role
The Field Safety Specialist I serves as a leader in the safety department under the direction of the Director of Safety and Health. This entry‑level role provides technical safety expertise by consulting with business lines, conducting observations and assessments, and recommending safe work practices to improve safety culture. The specialist documents compliance, leads analyses to identify safety factors, and, after review, may guide 10‑35 field employees daily to ensure safe job execution. • Uses relevant information and judgment to determine compliance with laws, regulations, or standards. • Provides consistent, technical, and practical interpretation of regulations, procedures, and standards. • Collaborates with operations to implement strategies that support work execution and controls. • Identifies, proposes, and executes corrective action plans to eliminate safety risks and exposures. • Creates sustainable safety culture, conditions, and practices. • Partners with safety professionals to coach and develop correction plans. • Participates in, facilitates, and conducts incident/accident investigations; suggests improvements and ensures corrective actions are implemented. • Identifies training needs, develops programs, and instructs according to OSHA/DOT/state regulations. • Assumes duties of the project safety manager or director as needed. • Builds productive relationships with employees, supervisors, managers, and senior leaders to strengthen safety leadership and practices. • Engages employees and leaders to increase safe behaviors, rule adherence, and proactively identify work barriers. • Partners with other safety specialists during escalations and leads senior‑leader briefings. • Inspects equipment, structures, or materials to identify causes of errors or defects. • Performs daily safety observations with face‑to‑face interaction. • Provides documented evidence of training and experience to meet qualifications. • Communicates and sets safety expectations through onboarding and orientation.

What You Bring
• Proficient in OSHA recordkeeping. • Strong organizational and document management skills. • Ability to multitask and handle multiple priorities effectively. • Maintains a professional demeanor, staying calm under pressure. • Detail‑oriented with high accuracy. • Solid mathematical skills. • Comfortable working in a non‑traditional office environment. • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills. • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. • Able to obtain or possess CPR/first aid or EMT certification and has project safety program experience. • Certification as an OSHA, MSHA, and Medic First Aid instructor preferred. • OSHA 10‑hour and 30‑hour or equivalent instructor qualification. • Attain CUSP before advancing to the next career level. • 3–5 years of transmission power line construction experience preferred. • BA/BS in health and safety or related field strongly preferred. • Ability to attain Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation. • Journeyman lineman or certified high‑voltage electrician. • Working knowledge of OSHA 1910 and 1926 and recordkeeping. • High school diploma or equivalent required. • Valid driver's license required.
