About the Role

Spring 2026 graduates are encouraged to apply. The position involves assisting in planning and executing subsurface investigation programs, performing site reconnaissance and slope stability evaluations, supporting design and construction deliverables, and conducting analyses for power delivery, transportation, facilities, and other projects. The successful candidate will perform geotechnical analyses, assist in preparing client deliverables, develop and plan site characterization programs, execute subsurface investigations, apply soil and rock mechanics theory, and provide specialty geo‑construction observation during construction. Travel, including overnight trips, may be required. • Assist in planning and executing geotechnical drilling and geophysical investigation programs. • Perform site reconnaissance and evaluate slope stability for soil and rock slopes. • Support creation of geotechnical reports, construction drawings, and design documentation. • Conduct analyses for foundations, retaining structures, tiebacks, soil nails, and cut/fill slopes. • Execute subsurface investigations, including test boring inspection and data collection. • Provide geo‑construction observation during construction phases.

GFT is seeking an Entry Level Geotechnical Engineer to join our Geotechnical, Dams & Hydraulics team. This hybrid role requires regular attendance at our Pittsburgh, PA office. Our team provides investigation, analysis, and design solutions for complex ground conditions, including deep foundations and slope stabilization, and is known for responsiveness and technical excellence. Required qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, 0–3 years of geotechnical experience, demonstrated interest through internships or coursework, basic proficiency with MicroStation or AutoCAD, strong communication and analytical skills, ability to work independently and in a team, excellent field observation abilities, and a valid driver’s license. The role also demands physical ability to work outdoors in all seasons, lift 30 lb, and traverse steep slopes. Preferred qualifications are Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certification, experience with geotechnical software such as SLIDE, SLOPE/W, LPILE, and gINT, and a Master’s degree with a geotechnical concentration. Compensation ranges from $70,000 to $90,000, depending on experience and location. • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (required). • 0–3 years geotechnical experience, including subsurface exploration and deliverable preparation. • Proficiency with MicroStation or AutoCAD; familiarity with geotechnical software a plus. • Strong written and verbal communication, analytical, and report‑writing skills. • Ability to work outdoors in all seasons, lift 30 lb, and travel as needed; valid driver’s license. • Preferred: Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certification and/or Master’s degree with geotechnical focus.
