About the Role

The Kansas City Construction Inspection Intern works on civil‑infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, water and wastewater facilities, pump stations, and pipelines. Under the guidance of a senior inspector, the intern helps document observations, monitor progress, perform field testing, interpret drawings, and compile daily reports, while using basic measurement tools and computer programs. • Assist inspector in observing and documenting construction progress for civil‑infrastructure projects. • Monitor, record, and inspect ongoing construction activities. • Coordinate field material sampling and testing (concrete slump, air testing, cylinder casting, soil compaction). • Perform measurements and calculations to determine work quantities and material needs. • Verify layout and dimensions using tape measures, rules, and other instruments. • Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications, identifying discrepancies. • Compose daily logs detailing activities, inspections, tests, personnel, equipment, and weather conditions. • Enter project information into computer programs and maintain documentation. • Follow general supervision from senior inspector and adhere to drug‑screening requirements. • Perform other duties as required, including overtime and travel to remote sites.

What You Bring

• Enrolled in a technical school or pursuing an associate’s degree with some construction‑inspection experience. • OSHA 10‑hour certification and ability to interpret construction schedules. • Strong interpersonal, problem‑solving, and communication skills, both verbal and written. • Ability to work outdoors on varied terrain, climb ladders/scaffolding, and lift inspection equipment. • Capability to perform basic geometry and algebra calculations. • Willingness to work nights, weekends, and travel to sites outside the KC metro area. • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate engineering program. • High attention to detail with strong problem‑solving and communication abilities. • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office.
