About the Role
The role involves hands‑on implementation of new environments, troubleshooting complex issues, optimizing performance, and guiding architecture decisions aligned with long‑term GIS goals. As organizations modernize their geospatial infrastructure, the engineer ensures clients can confidently deploy, scale, secure, and operate ArcGIS systems while serving as a trusted advisor and technical escalation point. • Design, implement, and maintain ArcGIS Enterprise environments on AWS, Azure, on‑premises, and hybrid infrastructures. • Apply cloud best practices for high availability, load balancing, security hardening, and performance optimization. • Configure cloud networking components such as VPC/VNET, VPNs, peering, routing, security groups, and firewalls. • Install, configure, upgrade, and troubleshoot ArcGIS Enterprise components (Portal, Server, Data Store, GeoEvent). • Support identity integrations (ADFS, Azure AD, OAuth) and enforce SSL/TLS and enterprise security policies. • Diagnose and resolve performance issues, outages, bottlenecks, and distributed system failures. • Develop automation workflows using PowerShell, Python, or Bash and contribute IaC scripts with Terraform, CloudFormation, or ARM templates. • Implement monitoring solutions with CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, ArcGIS Monitor, or PRTG. • Manage geospatial data architecture, database connectivity, and cloud storage integrations (S3, Azure Blob, RDS/SQL Server). • Assist with API‑driven integrations and backend services to support GIS workflows. • Lead cloud discovery sessions, architecture reviews, readiness assessments, and security check‑ups for clients. • Create migration plans for ArcGIS Enterprise cloud adoption and system modernization. • Produce documentation, training materials, and knowledge transfer for client teams.

What You Bring
• Minimum 3 + years experience in cloud engineering, systems administration, or enterprise GIS administration. • Hands‑on experience with AWS and/or Azure and proficiency in ArcGIS Enterprise lifecycle management. • Knowledge of enterprise networking (DNS, certificates, load balancers, routing) and scripting/automation (Python, PowerShell, Bash). • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for enterprise systems and understanding of cloud security frameworks. • Preferred experience with SQL Server, PostgreSQL/PostGIS, FME, GeoEvent Server, Mission Server, or Utility Network. • Experience supporting machine‑learning, analytics, or backend data pipelines and Linux operating systems. • Relevant certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Administrator/Architect, or Esri Enterprise Administration. • Excellent communication and client‑facing skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for non‑technical audiences. • Proactive, self‑motivated, and adaptable to remote work, capable of working independently or within client teams. • Ability to train others and contribute to system reliability improvements.
