About the Role

Daily duties involve diagnosing and repairing a range of systems, estimating repair costs, adhering to standard labor times, responding to emergency breakdowns, performing safety inspections, completing required documentation, and keeping the work area clean and compliant with safety standards. • Inspect, diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on vehicles and equipment • Estimate time and material costs for repairs and parts • Perform work within Standard Labor Repair Times (SRTs) • Respond to emergency breakdown service calls • Conduct safety checks on vehicles as top priority • Complete paperwork documenting parts usage and repair times • Review, complete or assign repairs from Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports • Maintain a clean, safe work area complying with Corporate/OSHA standards

What You Bring

Diesel mechanics at WM service trucks and equipment that support more than 20 million customers nationwide, using modern tools and procedures to maintain both diesel and, at some locations, CNG trucks. Candidates must have at least two years of relevant experience, a valid driver’s license with a clean record, be 18 years or older, legally authorized to work in the United States, and able to meet the physical demands of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations. Successful applicants also need to pass a pre‑employment drug screen and physical examination. The role requires frequent lifting, pushing, pulling, crouching, climbing, as well as constant standing, walking, and grasping, with occasional sitting. Workers are regularly exposed to occupational hazards such as cuts, burns, toxic chemicals, and environmental conditions including dirt, odors, noise, and extreme weather, both inside the garage and outdoors.
