About the Role

The Lead Design Engineer (LDE) provides design engineering services essential to the successful completion of turnkey projects. The role includes offering engineering guidance to designer teams and discipline‑specific engineers to produce comprehensive electrical and civil package designs. By leading design deliverables, the LDE ensures project schedules, budgets, accuracy, and submittal completeness are maintained in coordination with the broader execution team. The LDE is responsible for delivering value‑added engineering that enhances product quality while driving efficiencies. Key duties include leading medium‑ and high‑voltage designs for substations and medium‑voltage power distribution, conducting site walk‑downs to develop new work proposals, and generating engineering estimates, scopes, and budgets. The engineer also develops and maintains project schedules, mentors fellow engineers, and oversees design accuracy. • Lead medium/high voltage designs for substations and MV distribution • Conduct site walk‑downs and develop proposals for new work • Prepare engineering estimates, scopes, and budgets • Create and maintain project schedules and budgets • Mentor and collaborate with other engineers • Maintain Professional Engineer (PE) licensure • Produce single‑line, three‑line, schematic, wiring, interconnection, GD, conduit/cable, grounding, AC/DC control, SCADA, and commissioning drawings

Key Responsibilities

  • substation design
  • site walkdowns
  • cost estimating
  • schedule management
  • mentoring
  • electrical drawings

What You Bring

Candidates must possess a BS in engineering with 3–7 years of electrical engineering or design experience, an AS with 7–10 years, or at least 10–12 years of experience in lieu of a degree. A Professional Engineer (PE) license is required, along with proficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation. Applicants must be located in one of the specified states (AL, GA, MS, TX, OK, NM, NC, SC, FL, LA, TN); relocation assistance is not provided. The role demands field experience in testing and commissioning medium‑voltage equipment and a solid working knowledge of NERC/FERC, NESC, NEC, ANSI, and NETA specifications. The LDE must be adept at producing single‑line, three‑line, schematic, wiring, interconnection, general arrangement, conduit/cable, grounding, AC/DC control power, and SCADA drawings, as well as equipment testing procedures and commissioning plans. • Hold BS (3‑7 yr exp) or AS (7‑10 yr exp) or 10‑12 yr experience without degree • Proficient in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation • Located in AL, GA, MS, TX, OK, NM, NC, SC, FL, LA, or TN (no relocation) • Experience testing/commissioning medium‑voltage equipment • Knowledge of NERC/FERC, NESC, NEC, ANSI, and NETA standards
