About the Role
The Chief Engineer role serves as an engineering leader responsible for the safe, efficient and responsible operation of all building systems and equipment. You will manage a team of two engineers at two 200,000‑square‑foot Class A office buildings in Fairfax, VA, and the position requires on‑site presence. Working hours are 6:00 am‑2:30 pm, Monday through Friday, with an on‑call rotation. Day‑to‑day duties include overseeing maintenance, supervising staff, maintaining budgets, and coordinating with clients and property teams. You will develop and update maintenance plans, manage contractor performance, and respond to emergencies and service calls. Additionally, you will lead technical, safety and operational training programs and support capital improvement initiatives. • Oversee maintenance and continuous operation of all building systems • Supervise and manage engineers and maintenance staff, including hiring, training, coaching, and personal development • Create and routinely update a documented plan for preventive, predictive, and reactive maintenance procedures • Participate regularly in client‑facing and property team communications • Lead, create and manage engineering budget and participate in overall operating budget process • Assist in the development of a capital improvement plan • Select, schedule, supervise and direct contractors; monitor and document performance • Lead and organize ongoing technical, safety, and operational process training programs and procedures

What You Bring
Candidates must have at least seven years of relevant experience, preferably as a Chief Engineer or similar, and demonstrated people‑management skills. Required credentials include a DC 3rd‑license and Universal CFC EPA certification, while trade school, union, military or college education is desirable. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, the ability to lift 50 lb, use ladders up to 30 ft, and strong customer service and communication skills are also essential. The position is on‑site in Fairfax, VA and does not provide visa sponsorship; applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.
