About the Role
The role involves locating and marking reference points, attaching rigging, aligning structures, cutting and grinding irregular edges, and fastening components by bolting or welding. Workers also position drums and headers, connect and expand water tubes, install auxiliary parts, signal crane operators, test vessels for leaks, perform field repairs, fabricate custom parts, and ensure compliance with safety rules. • Locate and mark reference points on foundations using geometry tools. • Attach rigging or signal crane operator to lift components to specified positions. • Align structures or plate sections for boiler frames, tanks, or vats using plumb bobs, levels, wedges, dogs, or turnbuckles. • Hammer, flame‑cut, file, and grind irregular edges to facilitate fitting. • Position drums and headers onto supports and secure them by bolting or welding. • Align water tubes and expand ends to drums and headers with a tube expander. • Perform minor maintenance or cleaning with tools and equipment. • Install manholes, handholds, valves, gauges, and feed‑water connections in drums for water‑tube boiler assembly. • Signal crane operator to lift parts to specific positions. • Assist in testing assembled vessels by pumping water or gas under pressure and checking for leaks. • Repair boilers or tanks in the field by unbolting, flame‑cutting, straightening plates, installing new tubes, and welding sections. • Fasten and caulk vessel sections using pneumatic fasteners and caulking hammers. • Line fireboxes with refractory brick and blocks. • Fabricate parts such as stacks, uptakes, and chutes to adapt boilers to installation premises. • Perform flame cutting and operate torches. • Observe and comply with all safety and project rules. • Apply shop mathematics to solve problems. • Plan work and select proper tools. • Compare and identify differences in size, shape, and form of lines, figures, and objects. • Visualize objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings. • Make decisions based on measurable criteria.

What You Bring
Helpers (0-42 months experience) must have at least six months of documented field work in their craft and be able to read and interpret instructions and documentation. Job requirements include working to precise accuracy, applying shop mathematics, planning work and selecting tools, comparing dimensions, visualizing 3‑D drawings, making criteria‑based decisions, and working at heights. A high school diploma or equivalent and relevant experience are typical; employees follow established guidelines, work under direct supervision, and have limited independent judgment. Physical demands involve standing, walking, and sitting, with the ability to lift and carry 50 lb, push and pull 70 ft‑lb, and perform frequent climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, and fingering tasks. Strength and endurance are required for constant or frequent activities as indicated by the job’s symbol key. • Bolt or arc‑weld structures and sections together. • Bolt or weld casing sections, uptakes, stacks, baffles, and fabricated parts such as chutes, air heaters, fan stands, ladders, coal hoppers, and safety hatches to the frame.
