About the Role
Light Equipment Operators are responsible for operating various construction equipment—such as bobcats, bulldozers, excavators, front‑end loaders, backhoes, rollers, and graders—to move earth in precision processes. The role includes adherence to safety protocols, equipment inspections, and occasional assistance with repairs. Operators may also support other crafts during downtime by performing non‑operating tasks. Primary responsibilities include operating the designated equipment, conducting thorough pre‑ and post‑operation inspections, and ensuring all safety aspects are addressed. Operators must follow signal directions when required and assess the work area for hazards before and during equipment use. Documentation of inspections and any maintenance activities must be completed accurately. • Operate bobcats, bulldozers, excavators, loaders, rollers, and graders to move earth. • Conduct pre‑ and post‑operation equipment inspections and basic repairs. • Follow all safety regulations and signal directions during equipment use. • Complete equipment inspection paperwork accurately and promptly.

What You Bring
Candidates must have at least two years of experience as a dirt equipment operator and possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below. A valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and all required tools—including a raincoat and rain boots—are mandatory. Forklift experience is also required. Applicants should demonstrate experience with a range of construction equipment, basic mechanical aptitude for equipment inspection, and familiarity with soil types and excavation specifications. Reliable, accountable, and consistent performance of administrative processes, such as inspection paperwork, is essential. Punctuality and the ability to work scheduled hours, including overtime when needed, are required. Preferred candidates are current or former Zachry employees, particularly those with experience at Zachry Industrial, Inc. A valid driver’s license is reiterated as a preferred qualification. This position does not have any direct reports. Physical demands include prolonged sitting, frequent use of arms and hands for signaling and handling controls, and the ability to lift, carry, or move up to 50 lb. Employees must pass a visual acuity assessment, possess good dexterity, and wear required personal protective equipment such as hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, respirator, safety vest, gloves, and leather work boots. • Minimum two years of dirt equipment operating experience required. • Hold a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and required tools (raincoat, rain boots). • Possess basic mechanical knowledge and familiarity with soil types and excavation specifications. • Meet physical demands, including lifting up to 50 lb and passing a visual acuity test. • Forklift experience and ability to work overtime as needed.
