About the Role
The Accounting role oversees job cost accounting for construction projects, ensuring accurate posting of costs, progress billings, and change orders while monitoring budgets, variances, and subcontractor compliance. The specialist collaborates with project managers to resolve financial issues, supports month‑end and year‑end close processes, and assists with audits by preparing schedules and documentation. Maintaining organized project financial records is a core responsibility. • Manage job cost accounting for assigned construction projects. • Review, code, and post project-related costs for accuracy and compliance. • Prepare and process progress billings, including schedule of values, change orders, and retainage. • Track and reconcile project budgets, commitments, and cost variances. • Assist with preparation and review of work-in-progress (WIP) schedules. • Monitor subcontractor compliance with insurance, lien waivers, and contract requirements. • Coordinate with project managers to resolve cost, billing, and budget issues. • Track and process change orders with proper financial documentation. • Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes. • Assist with audits by preparing project-related schedules and documentation. • Maintain accurate and organized project financial records. • Work primarily in an office setting within a fast-paced, deadline-driven preconstruction environment.

What You Bring
Candidates should hold a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, or possess equivalent experience, with 3‑7 years of accounting experience, preferably in construction. Knowledge of construction accounting, job‑cost systems, percentage‑of‑completion and WIP reporting, and familiarity with contracts, billing terms, and retainage are required. Proficiency with software such as Sage, ADP, BuildOps, strong Excel and analytical skills, and effective communication are essential; CPA certification is a plus. The position requires extensive travel (80‑100%) combined with primarily office‑based work, occasional site visits and pre‑bid meetings, and the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven preconstruction environment. • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience). • 3–7 years of accounting experience, preferably in construction. • Strong understanding of construction accounting and job cost systems. • Experience with percentage-of-completion and WIP reporting (preferred). • Familiarity with construction contracts, billing terms, and retainage. • Proficiency with accounting and construction management software (e.g., Sage, ADP, BuildOps). • Advanced Excel skills and analytical ability. • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. • CPA certification or progress toward it (preferred). • Travel 80–100% of the time with occasional site visits and pre-bid meetings.
