As an Equal Opportunity Employer, AECOM values each individual’s potential and ensures confidential handling of applicant information in accordance with EEO guidelines. • Inspect and document aerial, underground, and intra‑facility fiber optic installations while performing QA/QC reviews. • Execute fusion and mechanical splicing and terminate connectors (SC/APC, LC/UPC, MPO, etc.). • Conduct daily field inspections, maintain detailed records, and report findings to project managers. • Participate in punch lists, testing, commissioning, and contribute to equipment turnover documentation. • Troubleshoot complex fiber optic issues on‑site and develop standard operating procedures for inspections. • Mentor junior team members, provide on‑the‑job training, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to meet project milestones. • Ensure compliance with all safety protocols and industry standards during field operations.

What You Bring
AECOM is seeking an experienced Fiber Optic Inspector to support the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) in Arlington, VA. The role involves inspecting, verifying, and documenting fiber optic installations, performing QA/QC inspections, and executing splicing and connector terminations. Sponsorship for U.S. employment authorization and relocation are not available for this position. A U.S. citizenship is required due to the nature of the WMATA projects. • Minimum qualifications: HS diploma/GED, 8 + years relevant experience, U.S. citizenship, and proficiency in OLTS, OTDR, power meter/light source testing, and visual fault locators. • Ability to read fiber design drawings, schematics, splice plans, and cable management records; knowledge of fiber types and installation standards (TIA/EIA, ANSI, NEC, NFPA 130). • Preferred credentials: FOA Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT), BICSI TECH or RCDD, OSHA 10/30, and confined‑space or lift training. • Experience with WMATA fiber plant standards, air‑blown fiber systems, and large‑scale municipal/transit network environments.
