Job Highlights
About the Role
Drivers operate heavy‑duty trucks equipped with front, side, or rear‑end lift attachments, transporting waste or recyclable material to disposal, transfer, or recycling facilities once legal load capacity is reached. Commercial drivers handle containers that can weigh over 1,000 pounds and must maneuver them in high‑traffic streets, driveways, alleyways, and lots, requiring highly skilled backing maneuvers. Residential drivers collect household waste in similar environments, while roll‑off drivers load, transport, and place large open‑top or compactor containers, often working in tight overhead industrial routes. Core duties include operating the vehicle in compliance with WM Safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA, DOT, and all applicable laws, as well as completing pre‑ and post‑trip inspections documented on a Driver Vehicle Inspection Report. Drivers must promptly report unsafe conditions, service issues, incidents, or route interruptions to the Operations Manager or Dispatch, attend required training and meetings, and communicate customer requests. They also empty all receptacles, keep the site clean, follow scheduled routes, complete end‑of‑day paperwork, and assist fellow drivers as needed. • Operate trucks with lift attachments to transport waste to disposal, transfer, or recycling facilities. • Perform pre‑ and post‑trip vehicle inspections and complete DVIR reports. • Follow WM Safety, OSHA, DOT regulations and all applicable laws while driving. • Report unsafe conditions, incidents, accidents, or service interruptions immediately. • Attend required training programs, briefings, and meetings. • Communicate customer requests and route issues to the Operations Manager or Dispatch. • Safely dump containers, leaving sites clean and free of debris. • Assist fellow drivers and complete end‑of‑day documentation procedures.
