About the Role

The Senior Project Engineer – Mechanical will coordinate and control mechanical and piping engineering works for a designated project, covering technical, inspection, scheduling, procurement, and quality control activities in line with Alkimos Seawater Alliance standards. The role assists the Construction Manager to ensure safe, on‑time, and on‑budget delivery while meeting specified quality. The Alkimos desalination project involves design, construction, operation, and maintenance of a seawater reverse‑osmosis plant slated for first production in 2028. Scope includes marine works, tunnels, seawater intake, groundwater system, drinking‑water storage, and pump systems supported by civil, electrical, and earthworks. Key responsibilities include conducting safety and environmental inspections, managing permits and subcontractor compliance, preparing work packages, issuing RFQs, evaluating bids and mitigating procurement risks, as well as reviewing and approving construction method statements and supervising temporary works. The role also involves developing and monitoring project schedules and critical‑path activities, ensuring technical, QA and environmental documentation compliance, utilizing GIS and digital tools for planning, leading engineering teams and promoting wellbeing, and maintaining financial control through lot and NCR closure, ITP upkeep and variance reporting. • Conduct site safety and environmental inspections, manage permits, and enforce subcontractor safety compliance. • Prepare work packages, issue RFQs, evaluate bids, and manage procurement risks. • Review and approve construction method statements and supervise temporary works. • Develop and monitor project schedules, manage critical path activities, and allocate resources. • Ensure technical, QA, and environmental documentation is accurate and maintain risk registers. • Leverage GIS and digital engineering tools for planning, design review, and site coordination. • Lead and mentor engineering teams, set performance goals, and promote wellbeing. • Track lot closures, NCRs, ITPs, and control costs against forecasts, reporting variances. • Work on a high‑impact desalination project contributing to sustainable water supply.

What You Bring

Candidates must have at least 10 years of experience in mechanical and piping engineering for large‑scale infrastructure projects, with strong knowledge of construction methods and temporary works design. Proven ability to manage project schedules, procurement processes and cost forecasting is required, along with proficiency in GIS, 3‑D models and planning software. Leadership, team management, and a comprehensive understanding of safety, quality assurance and environmental compliance are also essential. • Minimum 10 years experience in mechanical and piping engineering for large infrastructure projects. • Strong knowledge of construction methods, temporary works design, and procurement processes. • Proficiency with GIS, 3‑D models, and project planning software. • Demonstrated leadership and team management abilities. • In‑depth understanding of safety, quality assurance, and environmental compliance.
