About the Role

The Landfill Gas Technician reports to the Gas Operations Manager and is responsible for operating and maintaining landfill gas collection and control systems (GCCS). The GCCS includes extraction wells, piping networks, and gas conveyance equipment that transport landfill gas to a flare for combustion, ensuring compliance with state and federal environmental regulations. Key duties include operating and maintaining the GCCS efficiently, calibrating electronic data collection devices, managing data from wellfield extraction and monitoring locations, and implementing a preventative maintenance plan. The role also involves servicing liquid management pumps, adjusting wellfield valves and vacuum levels, and performing maintenance on PVC or HDPE piping. • Operate and maintain landfill gas collection and control systems (GCCS) to ensure regulatory compliance and optimal performance. • Calibrate and manage electronic data collection devices for wellfield gas extraction. • Enter, track, and interpret data from extraction and environmental monitoring sites. • Execute the GCCS preventative maintenance plan. • Service liquid‑management pumps and troubleshoot pump performance. • Adjust wellfield valves and vacuum levels and perform related data collection. • Repair and maintain PVC or HDPE piping and associated equipment. • Complete WM Landfill Gas Technician I training and follow all safety procedures. • Provide on‑call response for GCCS malfunction events.

Required qualifications are a valid, unrestricted driver’s license. Preferred qualifications include experience in environmental fieldwork, construction, or mechanical trades; knowledge of gas collection systems, pumps, blowers, and flare systems; technical training in related fields; familiarity with PVC/HDPE piping, data logging, and computer data interpretation; and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
