About the Role
In this mid‑level position you will conduct structural engineering analysis and design of transportation structures such as bridges and retaining walls. Responsibilities include concept development, preliminary and final design, procurement, and construction, as well as preparing plans, specifications, quantities, cost estimates, and coordinating with other disciplines, subconsultants, and clients using OpenBridge and related software. You will prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations, maintain quality‑control standards, assist in scoping small‑to‑medium projects, and provide guidance and training to entry‑level engineers. Interaction with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients is required, along with collaboration on federally and locally funded improvement projects and business development opportunities. • Perform structural analysis and design of bridges and retaining walls across all project phases. • Develop plans, specifications, quantities, and cost estimates; coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, subconsultants, and clients. • Utilize OpenBridge, MicroStation, MDX, and other design software to produce compliant design documents. • Prepare technical reports and presentations; ensure quality control and code compliance. • Provide guidance, training, and safe direction to entry‑level engineers and field subcontractors. • Interact with regulatory agencies, clients, and infrastructure authorities; support business development initiatives. • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of structural engineering practices and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct.

What You Bring
The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, 5‑7 years of relevant experience, and an Engineer‑in‑Training certification (NC PE preferred). Required skills include strong structural engineering principles, project management, effective communication, self‑leadership, QA/QC adherence, and proficiency with design tools such as MicroStation, OpenBridge, and MDX. Preferred qualifications include a Master’s degree, NCDOT bridge design experience, and active participation in professional organizations. • Hold a Bachelor’s in Structural or Civil Engineering; 5‑7 years relevant experience; EIT certification (NC PE preferred). • Demonstrated project management, QA/QC, and strong communication skills. • Proficiency in technical writing, office automation, predictive modeling, and spreadsheets. • Preferred: Master’s degree, NCDOT bridge design experience, and active participation in professional organizations.
