About the Role

The O&M Technician (Back Plant) monitors, cleans, operates, and maintains the ash recycling system, including ash conveyors and metal recovery equipment, at our Kent County Waste‑to‑Energy facility in Grand Rapids, MI. This full‑time, non‑union, non‑exempt position reports to the Chief Engineer or Shift Supervisor, works night shifts with alternating weekends, and may provide occasional support to other plant areas. • Verify and document proper operation of plant machinery and conveyors, reporting issues promptly. • Adjust equipment (belt speed, gate position, oil levels, etc.) to maximize metal recovery per procedures. • Maintain material handling systems, including ash bunker stocking and metal inventory. • Perform housekeeping tasks such as cleaning, greasing, and painting for upcoming shifts. • Enforce safety procedures and environmental policies through audits and daily checks. • Take immediate action on safety hazards and report them to supervisors. • Complete assigned preventative maintenance tasks. • Read and interpret operating manuals. • Work in variable conditions of heat, dust, noise, smoke, and vibration while following SOPs to prevent injury and equipment damage. • Provide additional support duties as needed for facility operations. • Operate mobile equipment, front‑end loader, and forklift. • Climb ladders/structures up to 50 feet and tolerate heights.

What You Bring

• High school diploma or GED. • Minimum of three years’ relevant experience in industrial, power‑plant, or military environments. • Experience in waste‑to‑energy or recycling plant settings. • Related military or technical training. • Mechanical aptitude and experience with conveyance equipment. • Pass pre‑employment physical exam and drug screening. • Hold a valid driver’s license in good standing for company vehicle operation. • Be fit‑test qualified for full‑face respirator use during maintenance outages. • Lift up to 50 pounds unassisted as required.
