About the Role

The Operations Manager is responsible for onboarding, developing, coaching, mentoring, and managing the performance of all drivers and helpers. The role focuses on building positive relationships with front‑line employees and spends the majority of the day in the field supporting commercial and residential lines of business. The position requires an early start, typically at 4 a.m. Daily duties include providing new frontline employees with tools, instruction, and feedback, and maintaining consistent communication through regular touchpoints. The manager reviews best practices to enhance performance, supports employee career goals, and identifies improvement opportunities. Safety is emphasized through coaching, leading by example, and conducting root‑cause investigations for injuries and incidents. The manager also ensures compliance by documenting and maintaining records required by regulatory agencies such as the Department of Transportation, reviewing and auditing daily route operation documents (e.g., DVIRs, time and attendance, open tickets), and following up on discrepancies. Visits to customers and sites are conducted to evaluate safety issues and explore service alternatives. Required qualifications include an associate’s degree (or high school diploma with two years of relevant experience), being at least 18 years old, legal eligibility to work in the United States, and a valid driver’s license. Preferred candidates have completed the WM Operations Manager Trainee program.
