About the Role

The engineer will execute designs within their technical competency while learning from peers, developing into a well‑rounded professional. An entrepreneurial mindset is encouraged to apply lessons learned and adopt new tools and technologies. Success is measured by delivering safe, high‑quality, and risk‑managed solutions. Key duties include planning and managing subsurface investigations, overseeing drilling, and integrating health and safety for impacted media. Field and laboratory data are synthesized into Geotechnical Data Reports (GDR) and Geotechnical Engineering Reports (GER) with clear assumptions and design parameters. Analyses cover foundations, embankments, retaining structures, slope stability, and seepage, which are translated into drawing and specification packages. The engineer develops designs for temporary excavation support, dewatering, trench safety, and construction phasing to support remediation and civil works. Responsibilities also encompass remedial design elements such as soil mixing, slurry cutoff walls, cap systems, geosynthetics selection, and settlement monitoring. Review of earthwork specifications, compaction plans, RFIs, and contractor methods is also required. The engineer takes technical lead on site civil designs, coordinating soil‑structure interactions, construction‑phase testing, and permitting. They lead multi‑disciplinary engineering teams through project delivery, ensuring scope, schedule, budget, quality, and safety objectives are met. Coordination with sub‑consultants, vendors, and field engineering services such as CQA/CQC observations is also part of the role. • Manage and design geotechnical aspects of construction and remediation projects nationwide. • Lead subsurface investigations, drilling oversight, and integrate health‑and‑safety considerations. • Perform analyses for foundations, slopes, retaining structures, and seepage, delivering design packages. • Develop temporary excavation support, dewatering, trench safety, and construction phasing plans. • Prepare Geotechnical Data Reports (GDR) and Geotechnical Engineering Reports (GER) with clear assumptions and risks. • Coordinate multi‑disciplinary engineering teams and sub‑consultants to meet scope, schedule, and budget. • Provide field engineering services including CQA/CQC observations, shop‑drawing reviews, and change evaluations. • Ensure compliance with the Engineering Design Quality Management Plan and project quality controls.

What You Bring

Weston is seeking a Geotechnical Project Engineer to manage and design engineering projects nationwide, covering clean construction and environmental remediation. The role includes site civil design and leading geotechnical planning, investigation, analysis, and design for foundations, earthworks, and temporary works. The position is Texas‑based (Austin preferred) with hybrid remote options and other office locations. Core geotechnical competencies include subsurface exploration planning (SPT, CPT, rock coring) and preparation of GDR/GER documents. Familiarity with laboratory and field testing—moisture‑density, Atterberg limits, grain size, consolidation, triaxial, direct shear, permeability—is essential. Expertise spans foundation engineering, slope stability, earth retention, and remediation‑focused geotech solutions. A Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Geotechnical Engineering is required; a Master’s with a geotechnical emphasis is a plus, along with 5‑8 years of experience. A Professional Engineer license is preferred, or the ability to obtain it within 90 days of hire, and an active NCEES record is needed. Proficiency in finite‑element geotechnical modeling software is expected. Physical duties include leading field teams to collect environmental samples and provide construction support, with the ability to lift 50 lb and navigate uneven terrain. Candidates must have excellent communication skills, be able to work independently or in teams, and possess a valid driver’s license for travel. US citizenship and eligibility for DoD security clearance are required; OSHA HAZWOPER, OSHA Construction, and CPR/First Aid certifications are a plus. The role requires proficiency with GeoStudio SLOPE/W and SEEP/W, SupportIT for soldier‑pile and anchored‑wall design, ProSheet for sheet‑pile analyses, and gINT for boring log management. Experience with PLAXIS, Rocscience suite, and LPILE/Group is considered a valuable plus. Microsoft Office competency is also required. • Hold a Bachelor’s (or Master’s) degree in Civil/Environmental/Geotechnical Engineering and 5‑8 years of experience. • Possess or obtain a Professional Engineer license within 90 days of hire and maintain an active NCEES record. • Demonstrate proficiency in finite‑element geotechnical modeling and software such as GeoStudio, SupportIT, and gINT. • Ability to lead field teams, lift 50 lb, travel, and maintain a valid driver’s license. • Excellent communication skills for technical presentations and client meetings. • US citizenship and eligibility for DoD security clearance; OSHA HAZWOPER, OSHA 30‑hour Construction, and CPR/First Aid certifications are a plus.
