About the Role

The primary role of the Fire Alarm Designer is to design fire alarm systems for Johnson Controls projects, acting as the design lead on large, complex, multi‑faceted assignments. This position directs other members of the design team and works closely with additional design groups as needed. You will organize and plan your workload, mentor less‑experienced designers, and facilitate reviews of medium‑complexity designs to deliver code‑compliant, value‑engineered solutions. Coordination with CAD Support Technicians includes creating detailed schematics, calculations, and project submissions, while you also perform system calculations, attend design and customer meetings, develop bills of materials, and ensure equipment compatibility with specifications. • Design fire alarm systems and lead design on large, complex projects. • Organize personal workload and guide less‑experienced design team members. • Conduct reviews of medium‑complexity designs to ensure code compliance and value engineering. • Coordinate with CAD Support Technicians to produce detailed schematics and calculations. • Perform system calculations to verify compliance with NFPA 72 and other standards. • Participate in pre‑ and post‑project design meetings and customer/site coordination sessions. • Create bills of materials and validate equipment compatibility with project specifications. • Support Project Managers with order processing to maintain or improve project margins.

What You Bring

Candidates must have at least five years of fire and security system design experience, NICET Level III certification (or Level II with attainability), and strong knowledge of NFPA 72. Proficiency in CAD drafting, estimating, reading architectural and electrical diagrams, and the Microsoft Office suite is required, along with the ability to obtain necessary licenses, travel locally, and work full‑time. • Meet minimum 5 years of fire and security system design experience. • Hold NICET Level III certification (or Level II with attainability). • Proficient in CAD drafting, estimating, and reading architectural/electrical drawings. • Strong knowledge of NFPA 72, multiple electronic building systems, and mechanical system interfaces. • Ability to obtain required licenses, travel locally, and work full‑time schedule.
