About the Role
The machinist sets up and operates conventional and special‑purpose machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts, then fits and assembles the components into complete units. They study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals or sample parts to determine dimensions, tolerances, the sequence of operations and setup requirements. Measurements, marks and reference points are applied to the workpiece to guide subsequent machining. The technician selects, aligns and secures fixtures, cutting tools, attachments and accessories on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders and shapers. Safety is a primary focus; the machinist oversees and enforces lockout/tagout (LOTO) protocols to ensure safe de‑activation and isolation of equipment in accordance with OSHA regulations. Overhead cranes and hoisting equipment are operated safely to move materials, components and finished products within the facility. The role requires the use of personal protective equipment—including safety glasses, shoes, ear plugs and flame‑resistant shirts—and the ability to work in hot, noisy environments while performing physical tasks such as lifting up to 40 lb, bending, twisting and reaching. • Set up and operate conventional and special‑purpose machining centers. • Interpret blueprints, sketches and specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances. • Select and secure fixtures, tools and accessories on mills, lathes, grinders and shapers. • Enforce lockout/tagout procedures in line with OSHA standards. • Safely operate overhead cranes and hoisting equipment. • Perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 40 lb and bending, twisting, reaching.

What You Bring
A high school diploma or GED is required, together with knowledge of shop mathematics and the properties of various metals and steels. Experience with manual lathes, surface grinders and milling machines is mandatory; completion of an accredited apprenticeship or a two‑year technical college program is preferred.
