About the Role
The Vertical Transportation Engineer role supports AECOM’s New York Metro team from offices in NYC, Piscataway, or Bloomfield, NJ. The engineer will design, develop, and review drawings and submittals for elevators, escalators, and moving walkways, adapt designs to varied conditions, and conduct site inspections and testing. Key responsibilities include collaborating with senior designers, producing drawings, reports, and specifications, calculating lift quantities, sizes, and speeds for all building types, retrofitting existing systems, and performing lift traffic analyses with Elevate® software. Up to 5‑10 % travel across the United States may be required for field assessments. • Design and review drawings and submittals for elevators, escalators, and moving walkways. • Collaborate with principal and senior designers on vertical transport concepts. • Produce project specifications, reports, and calculate lift numbers, sizes, and speeds. • Inspect installations and witness on‑site testing of vertical transportation systems. • Conduct lift traffic analysis using Elevate® and generate conceptual and scheme design reports.

What You Bring
Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree and at least four years of vertical transportation experience, be a U.S. citizen, and preferably have five+ years with escalators, elevators, or moving walkways. Desired skills include strong analytical abilities, proficiency with Elevate, CADD, BIM, Revit, and Microsoft Office, and the capacity to manage deadlines and build client relationships. • Travel up to 5–10 % nationwide for field assessments. • Hold a bachelor’s degree and minimum four years of relevant experience; U.S. citizenship required. • Preferred: five or more years with escalators/elevators, strong analytical skills, and client‑facing abilities. • Proficient in Elevate, CADD, BIM, Revit, and Microsoft Office suite. • Demonstrated ability to meet strict deadlines, organize work, and develop client relationships.
