About the Role
The role involves safe and efficient execution of general utility duties such as heavy labour, routine and preventative maintenance, cleaning of substation and depot equipment, light plumbing, roofing, fence and vegetative control, material handling, and lift‑staging erection, dismantling and inspection. The employee will also travel throughout the province as needed, support severe outage events, and must comply with a confidential pre‑employment alcohol and drug test. • Perform heavy‑labour utility tasks, routine and preventative maintenance, cleaning, and minor repairs at substation and depot equipment. • Travel regularly between Sydney and Port Hawkesbury depots and undertake occasional province‑wide assignments. • Erect, dismantle, and inspect lift staging; obtain or maintain staging certification. • Participate in safety, environmental, vehicle‑operation, and on‑the‑job training programs. • Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act and company safety policies; support severe outage events.

What You Bring
Candidates need at least a Grade 12 education, strong reading and writing skills, and the ability to perform heavy‑labour tasks. A valid Nova Scotia driver’s licence with a minimum of two years driving experience and a satisfactory abstract is required, as is a willingness to obtain staging‑erection certification. Additional assets include experience or certification in carpentry, insulation, mobile crane or vacuum‑truck operation, air‑brake and trailer endorsements. Work conditions demand physical capabilities such as lifting 17‑66 lb, carrying 25‑66 lb, pushing or pulling 20‑50 lb, and frequent walking, bending, climbing, and other movements. Employees must be able to work in warm temperatures, confined spaces, and discriminate colours, while maintaining safety and environmental standards. • Hold a valid Nova Scotia driver’s licence with at least two years of experience and a satisfactory driver’s abstract. • Possess Grade 12 education, basic reading/writing skills, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. • Preferred skills: carpentry, insulation, mobile crane or vacuum‑truck operation, air‑brake and trailer endorsements. • Physical ability to lift 17‑66 lb, carry 25‑66 lb, push/pull 20‑50 lb, and perform frequent walking, bending, climbing, and related movements.
