About the Role
The Light Equipment Operator is responsible for operating a variety of light construction equipment, including compact loaders, skid steers, loader/backhoes, mini‑excavators, forklifts under 12 k, riding compactors, tractors, rollers, and water trucks, to excavate, move, and grade material according to project specifications. Key duties include adhering to all company safety policies, operating gasoline, diesel, pneumatic or electric equipment safely, controlling levers, pedals, and attachments such as blades, buckets, and swing booms, and performing routine cleaning, greasing, and oiling. The operator must coordinate movements with crew signals, monitor fuel levels, follow load capacity charts, and conduct daily equipment inspections. Documentation responsibilities include completing equipment and maintenance records and reporting field conditions or issues to supervision. • Operate light construction equipment (compact loader, skid steer, loader/backhoe, mini‑excavator, <12k forklift, riding compactor, tractor, roller, water truck) • Follow all company safety policies and Zero Injury principles • Control equipment levers, pedals, and attachments to move, lift, swing, dump, and grade material • Perform routine maintenance: cleaning, greasing, oiling, and daily inspections • Coordinate machine actions with crew using hand or audio signals • Monitor fuel levels and adhere to load capacity charts • Complete equipment and maintenance records and report field issues • Read and interpret safety rules, operating manuals, engineering drawings, and GPS systems • Apply basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) for measurements

Applicants need a high school diploma or GED plus one to three years of related experience or equivalent training. The role requires the ability to read and apply safety rules, operating manuals, engineering drawings, and GPS systems, as well as basic math skills.
