Tool & Die Maker - 3rd Shift
Set up and operate machining centers to fabricate and assemble metal parts
Job Highlights
About the Role
The machinist sets up and operates conventional and special-purpose machining centers—including mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers—to fabricate metallic and non-metallic parts and assemble them into complete units. He/she studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions, tolerances, required operations, and setup needs. Measurements, markings, and reference points are applied to the material as guides for subsequent machining. Safety is a core responsibility; the machinist oversees and enforces lockout/tagout (LOTO) protocols to ensure safe de-activation and isolation of equipment in line with OSHA regulations. Overhead cranes and hoisting equipment are operated safely to move materials and components throughout the facility. Proper use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, ear plugs, and flame-resistant shirts is required, especially in hot and noisy environments. • Set up and operate conventional and special-purpose machining centers (mills, lathes, grinders, shapers) to fabricate parts. • Interpret blueprints, sketches, and specifications to determine dimensions, tolerances, and machining sequence. • Select, align, and secure fixtures, cutting tools, and accessories; measure and mark workpieces for accurate machining. • Enforce lockout/tagout procedures and ensure OSHA compliance. • Operate overhead cranes and hoisting equipment to move materials safely. • Perform physical tasks including lifting up to 40 lb, bending, twisting, and prolonged standing.
