About the Role

Key responsibilities include operating, inspecting and maintaining chillers and related test equipment, calibrating instruments for pressure, temperature, flow and electrical measurements, and troubleshooting electrical, mechanical and refrigeration systems. The technician also coaches team members, collaborates with cross‑functional groups, and reports results and issues to drive resolution. Lab safety, 5S practices and adherence to EHS policy are essential, as is reporting instrument failures and supporting preventive maintenance. The work environment is hands‑on, requiring frequent standing, lifting up to 50 lb, climbing ladders and exposure to temperature variations, refrigerants and compressed gases. Occasionally after‑hours or weekend work may be needed to support critical maintenance schedules. • Operate, inspect, and maintain water‑cooled and air‑cooled chillers and test equipment. • Calibrate laboratory instruments for pressure, temperature, flow, and electrical measurements. • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration systems, including 460‑3‑60 machinery and VFDs. • Coach team members, collaborate cross‑functionally, and report test results and issues. • Enforce lab safety, 5S, and EHS policies; report instrument failures and support preventive maintenance. • Collect and report test status, issue logs, and analytics; teach measurement techniques and test reporting.

What You Bring

Carrier is seeking an experienced Staff Technician for its engineering laboratories. The role is responsible for executing tests and operating water‑cooled and air‑cooled chillers, setting up test environments, performing calibrations, and ensuring efficient chiller operation in a safe lab setting. Required qualifications are a High School Diploma or GED and at least five years of experience in chiller/HVAC operations or a laboratory environment, including use of hand and pneumatic tools and advanced measurement equipment. Preferred qualifications include an associate degree or technical certification, proven ability to lead chiller testing, expertise in loop tuning, HVAC design, and medium‑voltage safety procedures, and strong reading of complex schematics. • Minimum 5 years experience in chiller/HVAC operations or laboratory environment; high school diploma/GED required. • Preferred AS/AAS, technical certification, or apprenticeship; expertise in loop tuning, HVAC design, and medium‑voltage safety. • Ability to work standing, lift up to 50 lb, climb ladders, handle refrigerants and compressed gases; occasional after‑hours work.
