About the Role

• Lead design phase team to ensure customer experience, financial performance, and smooth transition to construction. • Align scope, budget, and schedule; ensure construction readiness. • Establish and manage project budget, scope expectations, and budget trending logs. • Create and manage project schedules and key milestones; hold team accountable. • Obtain regulatory approvals and permits. • Align design documents with project execution plan. • Prepare bid packages and contract manuals. • Resolve technical design and specification issues. • Develop or review project margin plans; minimize risk and enhance opportunities. • Serve as primary contact with owners, architects, engineers, and trade partners. • Monitor and measure project success factors. • Foster integrated team experience with clear roles and communication. • Facilitate designer selection and contracting for design‑build projects. • Mentor and guide design phase team members for career growth. • Develop and present project proposals. • Build relationships with diverse stakeholders at all organizational levels. • Lead by example, provide coaching, feedback, and manage performance.

What You Bring

Mortenson is seeking an experienced Senior Design Phase Manager who can interact with staff at all levels in a dynamic environment. The role requires flexibility, resourcefulness, proactivity, and professionalism while maintaining confidentiality. The manager must anticipate problems, devise creative solutions, and communicate effectively to translate the owner’s vision into design and construction parameters. The position may involve overseeing two projects simultaneously or one larger effort. Mortenson’s postings typically remain open for a minimum of five days, averaging 44 days. The role offers a base salary ranging from $144,300 to $216,500, with higher rates in select locations, and eligibility for an incentive plan.
