About the Role

Success in this role is measured by building three or more production integrations into the central repository, delivering at least one data‑to‑application outcome adopted by the business, implementing comprehensive monitoring, alerting, and documentation, and establishing repeatable AI automation patterns with proper QA and evaluation. • Design and maintain production‑scale integrations (API, database, file‑based, event‑driven) delivering data to a central repository. • Build and support a centralized data platform powering analytics, internal applications, and AI/LLM workflows. • Implement data normalization and metadata standards for reusable datasets. • Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions, including automation and AI‑assisted workflows. • Enhance reliability with monitoring, alerting, observability, data validation, and failure recovery mechanisms. • Contribute to architecture and engineering standards for integration patterns, data modeling, and AI‑ready data access. • Develop internal tools and services (web apps, APIs, utilities) for data discovery, search, and operationalization. • Enable AI/LLM use cases such as semantic search, summarization, classification, and structured extraction with repeatable pipelines and human‑in‑the‑loop controls. • Design low‑latency data access patterns (views, APIs, query endpoints) supporting governed analytics. • Evaluate and recommend tools/platforms based on outcomes and maintainability rather than vendor preference. • Debug integration, storage, and application issues; produce clear documentation, data lineage, contracts, and runbooks. • Success metrics: Build 3+ production integrations, deliver a data‑to‑application outcome adopted by the business, implement monitoring/alerting and documentation, establish repeatable AI automation patterns with QA.

What You Bring

The position sits within a construction delivery organization and requires comfort working with real‑world, project‑based data that is often messy, fragmented, and tied to schedules, budgets, contracts, and field workflows. It blends data engineering, systems integration, automation, and business‑facing application development, with a focus on shipping end‑to‑end integrations that include authentication, incremental loads, monitoring, alerting, and documentation. AECOM adopts a tool‑agnostic, engineering‑fundamentals‑first approach. Typical data sources include ERP systems (e.g., CMiC, Textura), project management platforms (e.g., ACC, Procore), document management, and scheduling tools (e.g., Primavera P6). All data must be modeled, queryable, and reusable for reporting, applications, and AI agents, supporting structured tables, metadata, and where needed, vector/semantic indexing. Integrations must be secure, incremental, observable, and recoverable. Candidates need a BA/BS in Computer Science or a related field and at least four years of experience in data engineering, systems integration, backend engineering, or automation. Proficiency with SQL, relational databases, and Python (or similar) is required. Preferred skills include API and ETL/ELT development, monitoring and failure recovery, AI/LLM workflow integration, software engineering best practices, independent operation, data platform design for multiple consumption modes, orchestration frameworks, internal service deployment, and experience in construction or other project‑heavy industries. • Own end‑to‑end integration pipelines: ingestion, normalization, storage, and access (BI, APIs, apps, agents). • Minimum: BA/BS in Computer Science or related field, 4+ years in data engineering or similar, strong SQL and relational database skills, Python proficiency. • Preferred: Experience with API/ETL workflows, monitoring/alerting, AI/LLM integration, version control, testing, secret management, independent work, multi‑mode data platform design, orchestration frameworks, internal service deployment, AI workflow operationalization, data governance, and construction industry knowledge.

Benefits

The role is based on‑site in Chicago, IL, requiring a full five‑day work week with no remote or hybrid option.
