About the Role

The incumbent will oversee data collection and analysis from physical sites, including soil, water, rock samples, GIS data, and subsurface utilities, to inform project development. They will apply advanced geotechnical techniques throughout project phases, conduct comprehensive investigations, develop construction plans and specifications, and manage designs from inception through completion, ensuring safety, functionality, and compliance with industry standards. Leadership duties include implementing advanced technologies, supervising budgets and subcontractors, reviewing permits and designs, communicating findings to stakeholders, mentoring staff, and driving business development while adhering to WSP’s ethical standards. • Provide technical leadership for multi‑site geotechnical due diligence, investigations, remediation, permitting, and construction. • Collect and analyze site data (soil, water, rock, GIS, surveys) to support project design and construction. • Conduct complex subsurface investigations, settlement analysis, slope stability, and hazard assessments. • Develop construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, and safety/phasing plans. • Manage design and construction from inception to completion, including grading, drainage, foundations, and retaining structures. • Implement advanced monitoring technologies, modeling techniques, and future‑ready design solutions. • Lead large‑scale projects, overseeing budgets, tracking hours/expenses, and supervising subcontractors and staff. • Review permit applications, design plans, standby plans, and perform construction inspections for regulatory compliance. • Communicate technical findings through reports and presentations to diverse audiences. • Grow client base and identify new business development opportunities. • Mentor and develop junior staff members. • Ensure compliance with construction laws, codes, permitting requirements, and WSP’s Code of Conduct. • Apply critical thinking, technical calculations, and problem‑solving to develop effective, economical solutions. • Coordinate and direct subcontractors to ensure safe and efficient task completion. • Maintain workplace safety and adhere to WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.

What You Bring

Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering (Master’s preferred) and possess a professional engineer license, with 10+ years of relevant experience in geotechnical design and infrastructure projects. Required skills include proficiency with geotechnical principles, infrastructure design, relevant software (e.g., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS), strong knowledge of construction codes and permitting, and excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership abilities. The role also demands critical thinking, problem‑solving, safety compliance, and flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and occasional travel. • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering (Master’s preferred) and a professional engineer license (multi‑state preferred). • Possess 10+ years of geotechnical engineering experience, including design, planning, and construction management. • Proficient with geotechnical principles, infrastructure design, and software such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, GeoPak, and ANSYS. • Demonstrate strong knowledge of construction regulations, permitting processes, and compliance practices. • Exhibit excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills for interaction with clients, regulators, and project teams.
