What You Bring
The Maintenance Engineer Apprentice position is based on‑site in Scarborough and is part of Schneider Electric’s UK Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship Programme, offering a salary of £20,000. In this role you will optimise operational performance through proactive and reactive maintenance techniques, ensuring that plant and equipment are safe and reliable while providing on‑rota call‑out cover for reactive breakdowns. Applicants must have a minimum of five GCSEs (grade 4 or above) including Maths, English and a science subject, and demonstrate a genuine interest in engineering. Essential attributes include basic PC literacy, accuracy, deadline‑orientation, strong teamwork and communication skills, and an aptitude for practical science or engineering tasks; desirable traits include problem‑solving, organisational ability, flexibility, motivation to learn, mechanical aptitude and an understanding of health and safety in an industrial setting. • Respond quickly to breakdowns using fault‑finding techniques to minimise downtime. • Basic PC literacy with Microsoft Office or equivalent. • Ability to work accurately, efficiently and meet deadlines. • Strong teamwork and communication skills (verbal and written English). • Aptitude for practical science or engineering tasks. • Problem‑solving and fault‑finding ability to minimise downtime. • Organizational skills for managing spares and maintenance records. • Motivation, willingness to learn and good attendance record. • Mechanical aptitude. • Understanding of health & safety practices in an industrial environment.

The apprenticeship combines on‑the‑job training provided by Schneider Electric with off‑the‑job education delivered by a certified training provider, covering at least 20 % of your weekly hours. This mixed approach equips you with the practical skills, knowledge and professional behaviours required to meet the apprenticeship standard. The work pattern is 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Thursday from 07:55 to 16:25 and Friday from 07:55 to 13:25, with exact start and finish times agreed with your line manager.
