About the Role
The Power Plant Technician A operates, monitors, and maintains plant equipment to ensure reliable, safe and efficient operation of the plant systems. This is a full-time hourly position located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, requires Kendall UWUA Local 369 Union membership, and reports to the Operations Manager. The hourly rate for this position is $54.44 and there are two vacancies for this role. The position works a rotating shift schedule and follows all safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, including lock‑out/tag‑out responsibilities as an Authorized Employee. • Operate, monitor, and respond to normal and abnormal conditions of power plant equipment and auxiliaries. • Take readings and maintain records and logs. • Record equipment problems on work notifications/requests and document maintenance actions taken. • Perform water chemistry analysis, make feeds and adjustments, and coordinate with water treatment vendor. • Operate and regenerate water treatment equipment. • Assist in developing operating procedures. • Read meters, gauges, or automatic devices to record temperature, vibration, hours of operation, pressure, and fluid levels. • Visually inspect and listen to equipment periodically to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment, or lubrication. • Use facility operating procedures to keep equipment within acceptable parameters. • Open and close valves for proper system operation and mechanical isolation. • Open and close circuit breakers up to 480 volts for system operation and electrical isolation. • Perform safety duties, including lock‑out/tag‑out as an Authorized Employee with independent verification. • Maintain assigned cleaning station. • Comply with regulatory procedures, facility safety programs, and plant environmental permits. • Assist other job classifications when combined cycle major equipment and boilers are not in operation.

What You Bring
• High School Diploma or GED required. • Hold and maintain a Massachusetts Third Class Engineer’s License. • Minimum 5 years’ experience operating gas turbines, high‑pressure boilers, steam turbines, and heat recovery steam generators. • Knowledge of the relationship between plant operations and energy markets. • Basic computer literacy. • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs. • Pass pre‑employment physical exam and drug screening. • Perform moderately heavy physical work outdoors/indoors in all seasons, including lifting up to 50 lb (maneuver up to 100 lb). • Qualified to wear a respirator and tolerate confined spaces, temperature extremes, high noise, high‑pressure steam lines, rotating equipment, and dusty environments. • Required to wear PPE such as hard hat, safety glasses, safety shoes, and hearing protection.
