About the Role
The Area Director, Business Development leads market strategy through integrated planning, develops solid waste infrastructure via acquisitions, divestitures, privatizations, and works with market, area, and corporate functions to drive actions that help Republic Services win. The role creates and drives market strategies to improve financial performance, facilitates integrated strategic planning with sales and revenue management, and coordinates with operational leaders to ensure execution of action plans. The director conducts financial and capital investment analysis of business development transactions, partners with the Area President and General Managers to identify and execute deals, and manages due diligence, negotiations, closing, and integration processes. Responsibilities include evaluating business justification for new solid waste infrastructure projects such as recycling centers, transfer stations, and landfills, leading internal and external expert teams, setting project strategies and milestones, and overseeing annual landfill review, deeming, and municipal privatizations. Travel is required at least 30% of the time. • Develop and drive market strategies to boost financial performance. • Facilitate integrated strategic planning with sales and revenue management. • Coordinate execution of action plans with operational leaders. • Perform financial and capital analysis for acquisitions, divestitures, and other transactions. • Lead due diligence, negotiations, closing, and integration of business development deals. • Evaluate and manage new solid waste infrastructure projects, ensuring timely, cost‑effective delivery. • Lead annual landfill review, deeming process, and support municipal privatizations. • Oversee real estate transactions and travel at least 30% of time. • Manage project budgets exceeding $5 million and lead cross‑functional teams.
