HDR is seeking an experienced Project Development Technical Specialist to join our Michigan‑based Power Generation team. As a Project Development Technical Specialist, you will be part of a highly capable, multi‑disciplined team that supports power and energy projects primarily within the utility, Independent Power Producers (IPPs), industrial, institutional, and municipal sectors. Primary duties typically involve leadership of project development teams, coordination with engineering disciplines, monitoring and communication of project status, and providing development consulting support for conceptual design and owner’s engineer projects on both a technical and contractual level. Preferred candidates will have significant experience with industrial‑ and utility‑scale power generation systems and equipment, and a proven ability to plan, schedule, and lead development projects. Typical deliverables include conceptual drawings, heat and water balances, technology comparison tables, site due‑diligence assessments, project pro formas, equipment quotations, schedules, cost estimates, bid specifications, pipe and equipment sizing calculations, technical memos, bid evaluations, performance procedure and test reviews, feasibility studies, reports and consulting. Experience with the development and specification of power generation systems for simple cycle, combined cycle, cogeneration, distributed generation, reciprocating engine, combined heat and power, and renewables projects is preferred. Project roles will vary based on the size and type of the project, as well as the capabilities, experience, and preferred focus of the technical specialist. Roles typically consist of lead development specialist and technical specialist, and tasks are carried out collaboratively with specialists, engineers, scientists, real‑estate/land developers, economists, schedulers, estimators, and designers across the United States and occasionally other countries. Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills are required to lead a team of professionals. The position will require travel for site surveys, technical conferences, client meetings and schedule monitoring, typically less than 10 % of the time. • BS degree in either Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering or other relevant to Power Generation from an ABET accredited university • 10+ years of experience, ideally in the power industry with a blend of design and field projects • Experience working in multi-disciplinary environments • Ability and commitment to obtain a Professional Engineers license • Have the ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments • Willing to mentor less experienced specialists, engineers, and EITs • Proficient at working within an established schedule and budget • Associate's degree in engineering or related field of study or equivalent work experience • A minimum of 5 years of engineering experience in the discipline to be supported • Aptitude and demonstrated hands-on experience with computer applications specific to the discipline to be supported • Knowledge of industry standards specific to the discipline being supported • Proficient with Microsoft Office • Good verbal and written communication skills
