About the Role

The Utility Locator is responsible for identifying, locating, and marking subsurface utilities to prevent accidental damage during excavation. This role requires familiarity with industry standards, policies, guidelines, and procedures, and involves daily coordination with foremen and field crews to ensure accurate locate requests and compliance with safety requirements. • Maintain daily contact with GAS and General Foremen. • Submit locate requests promptly. • Ensure foremen receive appropriate locate requests before excavation. • Verify positive responses for all locate requests. • Provide standby information for high‑profile facilities as needed. • Conduct pre‑excavation inspections of PVREA sites to confirm pre‑marked areas. • Perform spot checks to verify locate marks by owners and contractors. • Assist owners and contractors in locating difficult‑to‑find facilities. • Locate privately owned and developer‑owned utilities on all OH and UG sites. • Coordinate third‑party contractors for locating private sewer services. • Maintain indefinite copies of all locate requests. • Ensure public safety and protection of underground utilities. • Locate and verify underground utilities against blueprints and plans. • Maintain company equipment according to service and safety guidelines.

What You Bring

The position is primarily field‑based and demands physical stamina, including frequent bending, squatting, climbing, lifting up to 100 lb, and working in extreme weather conditions. Clear vision, precise hand‑eye coordination, and the ability to judge distances are essential for performing accurate locate inspections and verifications. • Read utility locates and prioritize daily tasks based on project needs. • High school diploma or equivalent. • Valid driver’s license. • Minimum 3 years of utility locating experience. • Ability to read blueprints, electronic quarter sections, and plat maps. • Experience scanning for underground utilities. • General knowledge of construction practices. • Familiarity with industry standards, policies, guidelines, and procedures. • Proficient with Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. • Ability to work in all weather conditions. • Time management skills; 70% field, 30% office workload. • Ability to lift up to 100 lb with pull hooks. • Preferred: 4+ years of utility locating experience.
