About the Role
• Participate in engineering design and analysis within the scope of your coursework • Perform small tasks in AutoCAD and/or Revit • Use finite element analysis software (e.g., RAM, ETABS, SAP2000), hand calculations, and current codes under a Professional Engineer’s supervision • Visit construction sites to observe how structures are built and inspected • Review fabrication (shop) drawings for conformance to design drawings and specifications

What You Bring
The internship provides hands‑on experience working alongside licensed structural engineers, engineers in training, and BIM designers on diverse project types, helping you see how classroom knowledge translates into real‑world engineering practice and inspiring a future career in structural engineering. The role offers exposure to reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications, participating in design and analysis, using AutoCAD/Revit, applying finite‑element analysis tools and code standards under professional supervision, visiting construction sites, reviewing shop drawings, and contributing to a range of project tasks. Required qualifications include current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate engineering program, strong attention to detail, problem‑solving and communication skills, basic Microsoft Office proficiency, and a commitment to HDR’s employee‑owned culture; preferred qualifications include three years toward a degree with a 3.0+ GPA, demonstrated software knowledge, ability to work on‑site in Walnut Creek or Folsom, and a collaborative, eager‑to‑learn attitude. • Learn to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications (contract documents) • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate engineering program at an ABET‑accredited university, preferably with 3+ years completed and a 3.0+ GPA • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant software packages • Ability to work on‑site in Folsom or Walnut Creek • Exhibit a learning‑oriented, collaborative attitude and eagerness to serve clients and project teams • Possess strong problem‑solving, communication, and attention‑to‑detail skills • Basic Microsoft Office proficiency
