About the Role
The Line & Grade Instrument Man II provides expertise in surveying equipment to ensure accurate layout of work. This position coordinates layout activities with the Party Chief, Superintendent, and foremen, supports field resolution of tolerances and constructability issues, and contributes to safety through the IIF culture. • Maintain accurate physical site dimensions and controls. • Layout building locations, structures, and dimensions throughout the project. • Establish primary survey points with the client and transfer building control to the site. • Set up secondary controls and communicate procedures to work crews. • Implement layout methods and perform checks/re‑checks. • Provide data to Party Chief for defining points in a data collector. • Calculate and monitor daily concrete hold quantities. • Coordinate project layout with Party Chief, Superintendent, foremen, and other trades. • Act as Party Chief on smaller projects when needed. • Set up and verify surveying equipment accuracy using pegging, double centering, etc. • Validate calculations and information supplied by Party Chief/Superintendent. • Review construction documents for accuracy, deviations, and conflicts; issue clarification requests. • Collaborate with leadership to resolve constructability conflicts. • Interface with Formwork Engineering to supply layout for formwork shop drawings. • Maintain field notes and layout documentation. • Communicate changes and maintain technical drawings, as‑builts, and clarification logs. • Apply general construction tolerances and determine the most stringent tolerance required. • Follow safety guidelines, wear PPE, and stay aware of surroundings. • Participate in Tool Box Talks and contribute to Safety Task Analysis. • Comply with all safety procedures.

What You Bring
• High school diploma plus 4 years construction experience, or equivalent education/experience. • Minimum 2 years experience as a Line & Grade Instrument Man I. • Ability to respond to customer and regulatory inquiries. • Strong listening skills and ability to work within a team. • Proficiency in calculations (proportions, percentages, area, volume) and understanding of geometry and trigonometry. • Knowledge of industry tolerances and coordinate systems. • Ability to work respectfully with subordinates, peers, supervisors, and clients. • Team player who provides information, resolves conflict, and offers feedback. • Capability to direct work when required.
