About the Role
The Groundman position is an entry‑level role focused on the construction, repair, and maintenance of overhead electrical distribution systems that form the nation’s power grid. Groundmen support line crews by assisting with new construction, maintenance, and storm restoration projects, operating equipment professionally, and continuously training to enhance technical and leadership skills, all while strictly following safety rules and company policies. • Assist line‑workers in meeting project objectives • Join storm restoration efforts as needed • Operate vehicles and equipment professionally • Follow established safety rules and company policy • Travel long distances on short notice when required • Work extended periods in various locations when required • Work overtime when requested • Safely perform new construction, maintenance, or repair of energized and de‑energized overhead work • Inspect PPE and know when to wear it • Set poles and anchors • Assist installing transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, cross‑arms, insulators, switches and switchgear • Replace fuses in transformers and clear faulted circuits • Work with energized high‑voltage systems with skill and care • Maintain company vehicles, equipment and tools • Use and maintain hand tools • Identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit • Assist with installation and hookup of a single‑phase transformer • Follow excavation and shoring requirements • Check voltage on transformers • Install and remove a service • Climb various structures (wood, steel, etc.) using appropriate tools • Identify different material types used in line work • Work outside, frequently in inclement weather

What You Bring
The job requires regular physical activity such as standing, walking, climbing, lifting over 50 lb, and working in various weather conditions, while frequently being exposed to fumes, noise, and mechanical vibration. • Self‑motivated • Obtain a Commercial Driver’s License permit within 60 days • Read, write, and communicate effectively • Lift over 50 lb • String overhead wire • Use company radio properly • Perform basic rigging, hand lines, and lineman knot tying • Know materials used in line work • Understand induced voltage • Perform basic bucket rescue/escape • Understand equipment setup and grounding concepts • Work at heights and/or confined spaces • Observe minimum approach distance • Use Kellum grips appropriately
