About the Role
The selected scientist will support NASA’s Quantum Artificial Intelligence Lab (QuAIL) at Ames, focusing on quantum and quantum‑inspired algorithms, quantum simulation, error‑correction, and mitigation. The role requires leading independent research through numerical and theoretical analysis, evaluating algorithm performance, and comparing quantum‑classical hybrid approaches for near‑term applications such as quantum machine learning, simulation, and optimization. • Develop and analyze quantum and quantum‑inspired algorithms. • Perform resource estimation and benchmark quantum architectures and algorithms. • Conduct research and software engineering on quantum error‑correction and related algorithms. • Lead research on fundamental quantum mechanisms for computation. • Support and lead related tasks in quantum sciences, data sciences, and AI‑based technologies.

What You Bring
• Hold a Ph.D. in Physics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. • Have at least 3 years of experience in quantum computing, including hardware and software. • Demonstrate experience developing and benchmarking quantum algorithms. • Proven ability to lead small research teams and technical proposal efforts. • Exhibit excellent oral and written communication skills.

Benefits
Compensation ranges from $142,100 to $213,200, dependent on location, experience, and internal parity.
