About the Role
The MRO Buyer manages the purchase of materials, supplies, equipment, and services for the Johnson Controls facility in Lubbock, supporting manufacturing operations by reviewing demand and creating purchase orders. This role ensures timely material availability to meet production schedules while optimizing inventory levels and maintaining cost efficiency. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment and possesses a strong understanding of supply chain and procurement processes. Key responsibilities include purchasing packaging, safety supplies, tooling, janitorial and office supplies, and reviewing system messages such as Buy, Cancel, Reduce, Defer, and Expedite to adjust procurement plans. The buyer negotiates delivery schedules with suppliers, collaborates with production, engineering, and quality teams, and adjusts purchase plans based on changes in demand, lead times, or production priorities. Monitoring inventory levels, safety stock, inventory dollars, and Days Inventory On Hand helps prevent shortages or excess, while proactively identifying risks for escalation to Materials Management. Additional duties involve developing strong supplier relationships, tracking performance, resolving quality or compliance issues, analyzing usage trends, generating reports, and supporting lean manufacturing initiatives. • Purchase packaging, safety supplies, tooling, janitorial and office supplies. • Review system messages (Buy/Cancel/Reduce/Defer/Expedite) and adjust procurement plans. • Negotiate delivery schedules with suppliers to ensure on‑time delivery. • Collaborate with production, engineering, and quality teams to align material availability with schedules. • Adjust purchase plans based on demand changes, lead times, or production priorities. • Monitor inventory levels, safety stock, inventory dollars and Days Inventory On Hand. • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and internal procurement team. • Track supplier performance and resolve quality, delivery, or compliance issues. • Analyze usage trends, forecasts and historical data to inform purchasing decisions. • Generate reports on material availability, supplier performance and cost savings; support lean and continuous improvement initiatives.

What You Bring
Qualifications require a business‑related degree or equivalent experience, with three or more years in procurement or planning within a manufacturing setting. Candidates must demonstrate strong knowledge of MRP/ERP systems, excellent negotiation, communication and analytical skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Excel and reporting tools; experience with JIRA, MAPLE, and other procurement systems is preferred. The role demands the ability to work cross‑functionally, manage multiple priorities, and thrive in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment. Preferred attributes include experience with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies, strong problem‑solving skills, and meticulous attention to detail. The salary range is $61,000 to $95,000, determined by education, experience, and market data, and the position includes a competitive benefits package.
