CAD Technician II - CC

About the Role

Under limited supervision, the technician produces diagrams, schematics, layouts, multiview and other scaled drawings to meet client requests, performs minor engineering calculations, and creates detailed design drawings for civil and electrical equipment such as structures, foundations, grounding, steel, wiring, panels, and one‑line diagrams for substation, relay, and line design packages. They also file drawings, maintain engineering data catalogs, and perform routine drawing‑room functions. The Pike Telecom division upgrades and expands the nation’s telecommunications infrastructure, designing networks to increase wireless and cellular coverage, deploying the latest 5G technologies, and assessing storm damage to restore service after natural disasters. • Produce scaled diagrams, schematics, layouts, and multiview drawings per client specifications. • Perform mathematical, geometrical, and minor engineering calculations. • Create detailed design drawings for civil/electrical equipment, including structures, foundations, grounding, steel, wiring, panels, AC/DC and one‑line diagrams. • File and catalog engineering drawings and maintain drawing‑room records. • Manage multiple tasks and provide leadership to team members.

What You Bring

This intermediate‑level CAD Technician position builds on the tasks performed at the CAD Technician I level, requiring independent problem‑solving, communication, and familiarity with department procedures. The incumbent handles non‑routine drafting assignments of moderate complexity, translating rough sketches into precise drawings and coordinating work with other groups. They may also provide technical advice to junior drafters. Candidates must hold a high school diploma or equivalent, have 1‑2 years of technical training or comparable experience, and possess 2‑4 years of drafting experience. Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation, strong PC/IT skills, and good written and oral communication are required, along with analytical and problem‑solving abilities. Desired qualities include self‑motivation, independent work habits, teamwork, customer focus, multitasking, and the ability to lead other team members. • Hold a high school diploma or equivalent; 1‑2 years technical training or comparable experience. • Possess 2‑4 years drafting experience as a CAD Technician I. • Demonstrate proficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation and strong PC/IT skills (Word, Excel). • Exhibit strong written and oral communication, analytical, and problem‑solving abilities. • Be self‑motivated, capable of independent work, team‑oriented, and customer‑focused. • Experience producing engineering‑quality drawings using multiple CAD systems is preferred.
