About the Role
The Director of Data Engineering, Platform leads the design, construction, and operation of JLL’s core enterprise data platform, a critical component of the firm’s Data and AI strategy. This role owns the technical strategy and execution for data ingestion, streaming pipelines, data lake/warehouse, and processing frameworks, ensuring a scalable, reliable, and secure backbone for advanced analytics and AI/ML initiatives. The platform is built for self‑service, enabling Business, Data Science, Analytics, and Application Engineering teams to access data quickly and confidently. Success in this role requires deep expertise in modern data architecture, strong leadership, and the ability to partner with cross‑functional stakeholders. • Build, lead, and mentor a globally distributed data platform engineering team. • Define and execute the technical strategy and roadmap for the enterprise data platform. • Champion agile and DevOps practices, establishing SLOs for platform services. • Implement data governance solutions, including lineage, metadata, and quality monitoring. • Design robust security controls such as RBAC, encryption, and data masking. • Deliver scalable self‑service data services for data science, analytics, and product teams. • Engineer reliable data pipelines that provide clean, documented datasets for downstream consumption. • Collaborate with data science, analytics, product, and application engineering stakeholders to align platform capabilities with business needs. • Act as technical advisor and evangelist to drive platform adoption across the organization.

What You Bring
Candidates must hold at least a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, with 10+ years of data or software engineering experience and 5+ years leading engineering teams. Proven experience designing and operating large‑scale, cloud‑native data platforms, expertise in big‑data technologies (e.g., Spark, Kafka, Airflow), and mastery of unified data platforms and lakehouse architectures are essential. Preferred qualifications include advanced degrees, experience with containerization, infrastructure‑as‑code, and knowledge of the PropTech domain, coupled with strong people‑leadership, technical vision, and stakeholder‑management skills. • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field. • 10+ years of data or software engineering experience. • 5+ years of people‑management experience leading engineering teams. • Proven experience designing and operating large‑scale cloud‑native data platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure). • Expertise with big‑data technologies such as Spark, Kafka, Flink, and Airflow. • Hands‑on knowledge of unified data platforms (Databricks) and cloud data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift) with Lakehouse architecture. • Strong programming skills in Python, Scala, or Java. • Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) – preferred. • Familiarity with PropTech or enterprise B2B software environments – a plus. • Demonstrated people leadership and ability to develop high‑performing teams. • Visionary technical strategy and deep architectural expertise. • Strong execution focus with bias for action in fast‑paced agile environments. • Excellent stakeholder communication and influencing skills. • Analytical problem‑solving and business acumen.

The position offers a competitive salary range of $200,000–$300,000 and is open to remote work from major U.S. hubs such as Chicago, Dallas, New York, and San Francisco.
