About the Role

The Geospatial Database Administrator (GDBA) at NV5 specializes in managing PostgreSQL and Oracle databases that support critical Air Force geospatial data systems. The role ensures database integrity, performance, and security while implementing Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) on a quarterly basis. It also leads migration efforts from Oracle to PostgreSQL to maintain compliance with Department of Defense standards. Key responsibilities include designing, developing, and maintaining PostgreSQL/PostGIS databases, administering Oracle databases, and optimizing configurations and indexing for scalability. The GDBA leads migration planning and execution, creates automation scripts, and resolves compatibility and performance issues. Additionally, the role manages system and security administration, performs backups, disaster recovery planning, and ensures compliance with Air Force cybersecurity standards through regular STIG implementation and vulnerability assessments. • Design, develop, and maintain PostgreSQL/PostGIS databases for geospatial data. • Administer Oracle databases and ensure interoperability with PostgreSQL. • Optimize database configurations, indexing, and performance for scalability. • Lead planning and execution of Oracle-to-PostgreSQL migrations. • Create scripts and tools to automate data migration processes. • Implement quarterly STIGs and conduct security compliance checks. • Perform backups, disaster recovery planning, and regular system updates. • Collaborate with analysts, engineers, and IT teams to align geospatial systems with mission goals. • Ensure databases meet Air Force cybersecurity and DoD standards.

What You Bring

Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in GIS, geography, computer science, or a related field, or have equivalent experience, and possess advanced knowledge of PostgreSQL, PostGIS, and Oracle database administration. Required skills include migration experience, performance tuning, STIG compliance, and scripting proficiency in Python, SQL, PL/pgSQL, or PL/SQL. Preferred qualifications are certifications such as PostgreSQL Certified Developer, Oracle Certified Professional, and security certifications like CompTIA Security+ or CISSP, as well as familiarity with Air Force operations. • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience. • Demonstrate advanced expertise in PostgreSQL, PostGIS, and Oracle administration. • Possess experience with migration, performance tuning, and STIG compliance. • Proficient in scripting languages such as Python, SQL, PL/pgSQL, and PL/SQL. • Preferred certifications: PostgreSQL Certified Developer, Oracle Certified Professional, CompTIA Security+, CISSP. • Must obtain or hold a Secret security clearance and travel less than 20% of the time.
