Sr Manager - R&D
Lead R&D for MV Switchgear components, overseeing design, testing, compliance, and team.
Job Highlights
About the Role
Lead and manage research, design, and development of critical MV Switchgear components. Drive innovation, compliance, and industrialization to strengthen portfolio competitiveness. Define and execute R&D strategies aligned with business objectives and product roadmaps. Manage resources, budgets, and timelines, ensuring effective prioritization and delivery of component projects across both product lines. Supervise VCB design activities, including interrupters, linkages, and insulation systems for AIS and GIS environments. Define and approve type and prototype test plans covering mechanical endurance, TRV, dielectric, internal arc, and environmental cycling. Coordinate type testing with accredited labs such as KEMA, CESI, and GCC Lab while overseeing in‑house prototype validation. Lead root‑cause analysis of failures and implement corrective measures across product families. Guarantee compliance with IEC 100/102/103/200 standards as well as customer‑specific and utility requirements. Maintain technical documentation supporting certifications, approvals, and type testing. Utilize DFMEA and reliability engineering methods to strengthen robustness and long‑term quality of Switchgear components. Coordinate with manufacturing, supply chain, electrical, and quality teams to ensure industrialization of components. Collaborate with suppliers and R&D institutions to localize and qualify components, reducing costs and lead times. Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary team, fostering expertise and building succession pipelines. Recruit, recognize, and cultivate high performers to create a robust second line of management. Assess subordinates based on performance that leads to planned results, anticipate problems, and take proactive steps to prevent them. Make timely decisions, deliver results with required quality and cost, and monitor budgets to achieve optimum cost efficiency. Develop and coordinate well‑defined systems, policies, and procedures while seeking automation opportunities. • Define and execute R&D strategies for MV Switchgear component development. • Manage resources, budgets, and timelines for component projects. • Supervise VCB design activities, including interrupters, linkages, and insulation systems. • Define and approve type and prototype test plans (mechanical endurance, TRV, dielectric, etc.). • Coordinate type testing with accredited labs and oversee prototype validation. • Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for failures. • Ensure compliance with IEC 100/102/103/200 standards and customer-specific requirements. • Maintain technical documentation for certifications and type testing. • Apply DFMEA and reliability engineering to improve component robustness. • Coordinate with manufacturing, supply chain, electrical, and quality teams for industrialization. • Collaborate with suppliers and R&D institutions to localize and qualify components. • Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary team, building succession pipelines. • Recruit and develop high‑performing talent to create a second line of management. • Monitor and control budgets to achieve cost efficiency. • Develop and automate written systems, policies, and procedures.
