About the Role

Under general supervision, the intern will assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from physical work sites, surveys, blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, flow diagrams, computer‑generated reports, and other matrices for project development, design, and installation. The role includes basic professional building‑technology work such as researching and inspecting proposed and existing site conditions, equipment, layouts, and systems to ensure conformance with applicable rules, standards, codes, and permits. The intern will perform routine building‑technology functions and provide entry‑level technical assistance on design requirements, load calculations, and operating strategies to support proper installation and functioning of equipment and systems according to specifications. Additional duties involve verifying site characteristics, offering technical assistance on design, installation, and integration of smart‑building technologies (AV/telecommunications, intelligent systems), generating accurate documentation and specifications using electronic systems, complying with safety guidelines, completing assigned training, and adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies. • Collect and analyze data from sites, surveys, blueprints, schematics, and reports for project development. • Conduct research and inspections of existing and proposed site conditions and systems for code compliance. • Perform routine building‑technology tasks, including load calculations and operating strategy support. • Verify site characteristics and assist with design, installation, and integration of smart‑building technologies. • Generate accurate documentation, specifications, and reports using electronic tools and drawings. • Follow safety guidelines and site‑specific procedures throughout the internship. • Complete assigned training and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and policies.

What You Bring

The Buildings Team is seeking a full‑time Building Technology Systems Intern – Summer 2026 to work out of the Houston, TX office. This temporary position is open to individuals currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program and is part of the WSP Summer Internship Program, a 12‑week program scheduled to start on May 18, 2026, with flexible start dates. Required qualifications include active enrollment in an accredited Building Technology Systems, Electronics Engineering, Network Engineering, Network Architecture, Drafting, or related undergraduate program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2026 or later, being 18 or older, and having authorization to work in the United States. Candidates must demonstrate interest in building technology, possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, be able to follow direction, and have basic proficiency with technical writing, office software, spreadsheets, and design tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, or CAM. Familiarity with smart‑building design concepts, relevant codes, regulations, and record‑keeping, along with excellent research, analytical, and detail‑oriented skills, is required. Applicants must also uphold workplace safety, be able to work flexible hours, and adhere to WSP’s health, safety, and conduct policies. Preferred qualifications include design experience related to audiovisual, electronic security, or structured cabling, experience with Revit, and prior internship experience in related fields. • Enrolled in an accredited Building Technology, Electronics, Network Engineering, or related undergraduate program, graduating August 2026 or later. • Minimum age 18 and authorized to work in the United States. • Strong interest in building technology with solid interpersonal and communication skills. • Proficient in technical writing, office software, spreadsheets, and basic design tools (Revit, AutoCAD, CAM). • Knowledge of smart‑building design concepts, relevant codes, regulations, and record‑keeping. • Demonstrated research, analytical, and detail‑oriented work habits. • Commitment to workplace safety and ability to work flexible hours. • Preferred: audiovisual/electronic security design experience, Revit experience, prior related internships.
