About the Role
The technician conducts comprehensive field reconnaissance to gather data that updates facility records and supports design documentation. Work is performed under senior technical or engineering direction, often serving as a design or staking assistant. Accurate field records are essential for downstream office‑based project work. The incumbent must actively uphold Pike Engineering’s Core Values, strictly follow the company Safety Manual, and participate in all safety initiatives, serving as an advocate for a safe working environment. • Collect field data including measurement, mapping, photography, inventory, and staking under senior staff direction. • Assist senior employees in the field as a design or staking aide. • Advocate Pike Engineering’s Core Values and adhere to the Safety Manual. • Promote safety and participate in all safety initiatives. • Gather data using paper drawings, forms, electronic devices, digital cameras, or other specified formats. • Identify items to document in the field with minimal supervisory assistance. • Operate hand‑held data collection units, laser range finders, digital cameras, and GPS receivers. • Record accurate measurements and dimensions according to project specifications. • Assist in power restoration efforts during natural disaster events (e.g., driver, wire sitter, runner). • Produce clear data records using correct standards and symbology for office staff. • Meet production targets and respect project deliverables and milestones. • Manage multiple tasks and help train new peers.

What You Bring
This is the first level of the field technician positions. This position may be a training slot for a Designer and/or CAD position within the organization. Desired qualifications include strong organization in actions and written communication, familiarity with common computer software such as MS Office Suite and CAD drafting systems if applicable, and experience in design or line construction in a utility environment. Familiarity with GIS systems and basic data structures is preferred. The incumbent must have a high level of self‑motivation, be able to work independently, and be able to work in an outside environment. The role requires a self‑motivated individual who can work independently, collaborate within a team, manage multiple tasks, and assist in training new peers. Comfort with outdoor work conditions and a valid driver’s license are essential. • Travel overnight as required. • Work independently, be self‑motivated, and maintain a team‑oriented approach. • Maintain a valid driver’s license and work comfortably in an outdoor environment.
