About the Role

The Area Lead shares responsibility for day‑to‑day department activities, ensuring delivery aligns with WSP’s mission and culture. The role focuses on developing the team to achieve business planning goals, promoting high‑quality standards, and strengthening internal teamwork and technical expertise to meet client needs. Regular team meetings will be used to inform, discuss, and plan departmental requirements and additional duties as assigned. Leadership responsibilities include fostering WSP’s culture, values, and mission, identifying future leaders, and promoting corporate structure. The Area Lead will drive business planning, innovate processes, support the Knowledge Management Program, and contribute to the department’s business plan strategy. Production work will be maintained at approximately 60% utilization while coordinating staff assignments, project resourcing, workload, and QA/QC of all deliverables. Team‑building duties involve creating a respectful environment, maintaining high employee morale, and conducting recurring staff meetings to address issues. The role includes preparing and administering performance reviews, setting goals, providing coaching, and handling administrative requests such as vacation and leave. Training implementation, personal skill development, and execution of an annual recruiting plan—including college recruiting for interns and entry‑level positions—are also key responsibilities. Collaboration extends beyond the department to the Business Unit and the broader company, seeking opportunities to share work with other offices and actively participating in Business Unit meetings. The Area Lead will develop relationships with internal project managers and key clients to secure a steady workflow and strengthen inter‑office rapport. • Oversee Hawaii distribution team and coordinate workload delegation. • Lead hiring, training, development, and client interfacing for the Business Unit. • Foster WSP culture, values, and mission while developing future leaders. • Drive business planning, innovation, and Knowledge Management initiatives. • Maintain ~60% utilization by contributing to production work. • Ensure QA/QC compliance on all departmental deliverables. • Participate in marketing, proposal development, and client relationship building. • Conduct regular staff meetings, performance reviews, and coaching sessions. • Implement training programs and manage the annual recruiting plan. • Collaborate with other WSP offices, Business Unit, and internal project managers.

What You Bring

Required qualifications include a minimum of five years of relevant leadership or industry experience, at least one year at WSP, and experience in 2.4 kV through 35 kV distribution design with knowledge of GO‑95, GO‑126, NEC, and NESC standards. Candidates must demonstrate high emotional intelligence, strong listening, analytical, problem‑solving, teamwork, and communication skills, as well as proficiency in English and a proven safety record complying with WSP policies. Preferred qualifications are a BSEE or BSEET degree (preferably with a power option) or equivalent experience, Professional Engineer licensure, three or more years of WSP experience, experience collaborating across offices, leading project teams, and managing personnel. • Minimum 5 years of leadership/industry experience and 1 year at WSP. • Expertise in 2.4 kV‑35 kV distribution design and relevant standards (GO‑95, GO‑126, NEC, NESC). • Strong emotional intelligence, analytical, communication, and teamwork skills. • Proven safety record and adherence to WSP health, safety, and conduct policies. • Preferred: BSEE/BSEET degree, Professional Engineer license, additional WSP experience, project team leadership.
